Congratulations Ailish Barry - Class of 2021
Former St John Paul College Student Awarded Prestigious St Andrew’s Medal
St John Paul College graduate Ailish Barry has been awarded the 2025 St Andrew’s Medal, the highest academic honour conferred by St Andrew’s College within the University of Sydney.
Ailish, who completed her secondary studies at St John Paul College in Coffs Harbour, was formally presented with the Medal at the College’s annual University & Schools Chapel Service and Dinner earlier this week. The award was presented by David Thodey AO, FTSE, Chancellor of the University of Sydney.
The St Andrew’s Medal recognises the most academically accomplished student resident of the College, awarded to the student who completes 144 credit points with the highest academic achievement while residing at St Andrew’s.
Now completing a Bachelor of Science (Honours) majoring in Anatomy and Histology, Ailish has achieved an exceptional academic record. She has maintained a high distinction average, received the University of Sydney Academic Merit Prize, and was placed on the Dean’s List of Excellence in Academic Performance. She was also awarded the Geoff White Scholarship and Stephen Salsbury Scholarship, recognising academic merit in her field of study.
Reflecting on the award, Ailish said:
“Receiving the St Andrew’s Medal is a deeply meaningful acknowledgement of the academic and personal commitment I have made throughout my university journey. It validates the time I’ve invested in my studies and reminds me that setting high standards and following through matters.”
Ailish also expressed appreciation for the support she received while living at St Andrew’s College, which she described as a “community that consistently encouraged me to aim higher.” Originally from Coffs Harbour, Ailish said the move to Sydney came with challenges, but the environment at St Andrew’s helped her thrive both academically and personally.
