Assistant Principal - Pastoral Care
We have come to the end of another busy term at the College. The end of the first semester comes with its unique circumstances. The weather is cooler, many students and staff are tired and immune systems are low. The onslaught of assessments tasks and subsequent school reports can also make it quite a taxing time for all. We all need to try and take the time these holidays to try and relax and recuperate.
Rest can be difficult to define because it can look different for everyone. Rest is any behavior aimed at increasing physical or mental well-being. It can be active, such as going for a walk outside, or passive, such as taking 10 minutes to sit down and breathe deeply. Regardless of how you choose to rest, these daily behaviours can help you recover and recharge from physical and mental effort. That’s why better rest is linked to better physical and mental health.
The receiving of school reports this week can also be a stresser for some students and parents. Dealing with a school report, whether good or bad, requires a calm and constructive approach. It's important to approach it with a focus on understanding and improvement rather than solely on grades. Start by carefully reading the report, noting both strengths and areas needing attention. Discuss the report with your child, focusing on open communication and encouragement, rather than blame or punishment. Engage with the teacher to gain further clarity and develop a plan for support and improvement. Focus on understanding the feedback, discussing it with your child, and working together to identify areas for improvement or celebrate successes. Avoid comparing your child's report with others, and remember to emphasize their strengths and overall well-being.
We have had another very successful Kalawazi campaign this year. While we do not have any final numbers as yet, we can be assured that all monies raised will be put to great use by our friends in Malawi. It is never too late to give, so if you are in a position to sponsor a student ($50) for their 2026 educational costs please contact the Office.
A huge thank you to all who made the 25th year celebrations such as success and these include:
Our students from the graduating class of 2001 (Ashleigh, Ainslie & Erin) who spoke so passionately at the College Assembly about their Kawalazi experience along with Joseph Nolan who helped organise them for the assembly.
Members of the committee who organised the photo montage in the Subway.
Our College leaders for their efforts in selling Kawalazi produced materials.
The College Office who daily promoted the project and counted the money for our running tally.
Everyone and anyone who gave as much as they could to help this worthwhile cause.
Year 7D - first homeroom to raise $50
I hope all have a well earned rest and return to SJPC for what will no doubt be a busy semester two for 2025.
Until next time:
